Doing Business in Turkey
This paper gives a brief economic profile of turkey, explores the easiness of doing business there, and the factors that influence business operations in Turkey. Turkey is located at a close proximity to Europe, the Caucasus, and the Middle East. Turkey benefits from its location as it acts as a bridge between Europe and Asia. Turkey's free-market economy is usually driven by its service and industrial sector. In addition, its agriculture sector accounts for almost 25% of employment. Turkey's state involvement in the banking, industry, communication, and transport sector has been largely reduced by the privatization programs adopted in the country. The construction, automotive, and electronics industries in Turkey have risen in importance even surpassing textiles within Turkey's export products (Economy profile: Turkey, n.d.).
Nowadays, any investment made in turkey can run successfully since the government has registered itself with the European Union. This has paved way for the adoption of European business regulations and standards making it easy to conduct business transaction in the Turkey's market. Moreover, the various reforms embraced in the republic of Turkey have created a stable economy leading to a high demand for new goods and services.
Factors that make it easy to do business in Turkey
Globally, Turkey is ranked position 93 out of 189 economies on the ease of starting a business. The recent reforms in Turkey have made it easier for potential investors to run their businesses in an easy way than it used to be. For instance, Turkey's government has strengthened investor protection by adoption of a new commercial code that requires directors involved in any abusive related-party transactions to disgorge their profits. This code also allows shareholders to request the appointment of an auditor to investigate alleged prejudicial conflicts of interest. Moreover, the Turkey's government has made it easier to get electricity supply by eliminating external inspections, and cutting-off some administrative costs (Doing Business in Turkey - World Bank Group, n.d.).
