The Differentiating and Positioning Strategies Used to Gain a Maximum Competitive Advantage
Competitive advantage is central in gaining the upper-hand in the competing industry. To achieve this, the company must have an excellent positioning strategy and differentiation (ResearchClue, 2017).
Positioning involves the creation and maintenance of a specific position of the company and its products in the market (ResearchClue, 2017). The positioning strategies include the following differentiation, comparative, and segmentation strategies (Shopkick Team, 2019). Differentiation strategy entangles using the criteria implicated by the various buyers in the industry to provide the consumers with a set of choices that allows them to prefer one product over another (ResearchClue, 2017). There are two main types of differentiation strategy, namely, broad and focused. A broad differentiation strategy allows the firm to create a business that is unique from its competitors. It can be applied to a field that will boost its appeal to a broad range of consumers. By contrast, a focused differentiation strategy compels the firm to create features of the product that will allow it to advertise itself in a narrow market (Indeed.com, 2020).
