Targeting of undergraduate students who are mostly below the legal age of drinking by tobacco and beer companies are unethical business practices. Unethical practices in the business field are those actions which do not conform to the morals and principles of the business environment. This means that they are not genuinely done but may mislead clients. The practice is unethical because it explain to the students who are below the legal age of drinking the various benefits of taking tobacco or beer. Some are likely to develop curiosity and may end up taking the illegal commodities to prove whether the products are as good as they perceived them during the promotions. When credit card companies target on undergraduate students who have no income, the practice may be referred to as ethical because they aim at gaining popularity among the youth so that the company may experience growth even in future (Sims, 2002). Many students are able to associate with the credit company in the future and therefore it would undergo growth.
The practices whereby publishers of textbooks sponsor parties and offer textbook copies to professors may be termed as ethical practices. This is because the professors are able to advise students on the best revision materials and the company ends up capturing wider market. Increased sales of the company’s products lead to increased growth of the company.
