According to business environment rankings (BERs), Singapore is among the best countries in the world to do business (Howey, 2022). The government of Singapore has developed a good infrastructure and supports a skilled workforce by emphasizing education and training. The country has a strategic location in Southeast Asia, a gateway to regional markets. Several factors make Singapore favorable or unfavorable to conducting business activities.
The government of Singapore has created effective policies which support business. For example, the government is committed to creating a pro-business environment through manpower and economic policies. In 2022, Enterprise Singapore (a government agency) launched an e-commerce booster package to support business diversification and the transformation of revenue streams to retailers (William Commerce,2022). The tax system in Singapore is also favorable for doing business because of tax incentives for various companies. Government policies and the tax system in Singapore support privatization (Jain & Gupta,2018). The corporate tax system benefits companies willing to establish a business in Singapore (Polevikova,2013). Singapore has a stable political environment with low levels of corruption and transparent legal systems.
Singapore has several industries which support business operations in the country. According to Jain & Gupta (2018), there are over ninety Finnish companies in Singapore where entrepreneurs can find business opportunities. Additionally, the country has top international companies, including Google, Apple, DBS Bank, Microsoft, and Gamble. All these companies have acknowledged the potential of running the business in Singapore. The government of Singapore has identified key growth sectors like biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, and digital services.
There is the ease of doing and establishing a business in Singapore. For example, the Singapore companies act states that any individual who has reached 18 years can register a company. The country is a premier International Maritime Centre that supports business activities in the port (Jain & Gupta,2018). Singapore is famous for traveler shelters packaged with several shopping choices. Its open economy and strategic location make it attractive for international companies willing to invest in the country. The business market size in Singapore is small compared to other countries. Still, it provides high levels of sophistication and efficiency and is a gateway toward the Southeast Asian region.
