Following a lackluster performance for the last 30 years , the Apple company underwent radical changes following the adoption of new designs and creativity in its products. The reign of Steve Jobs coincided with the rejuvenation of the company to its former glory in the past two decades ( Baltzan & Phillips, 2008). Creativity and innovation capabilities of the Apple company were evident in the year 2000 following the launch of Mactintosh. Similarly, in the following years Steve Jobs collaborated with Jeff Robin which resulted in the development of both iPods and iTunes. These innovative products turned out to be successful as the company was able to make a turn around, as the company’s products became easily recognizable.
Baltzan and Phillips point out that Apple company utilized information systems management (ISM) to create a niche market at the time when computers and mobile technology began improve rapidly. Through the use of the ISM , the Apple company created new innovative products that had few competitors. In essence, the focus on both the iTunes and iPod meant that other companies merely competed against each other in Compact Disk technology , but failed to create anything new. The authors highlight that Apple Inc developed rapidly by focusing on emerging trends through adoption of the iPod and also ensuring the success of the iPhone in the future through continuous improvements and staying ahead of her competitors in terms of innovations. Thus, ISM was essential in revitalizing the fortunes of the company in which iTunes relied on ISM to dominate the niche market.
