Trend 6 is “Managing information technology and shared services as a business”. Internal charge backs for IT services is one such trend, yet most organizations include them as overhead or indirect costs (IMA, 2014 a). There are shared IT services and the IT department is now critical for most organizations. Charging back the expenses to the users and itemizing them avoids these expenses getting out of control (Cokins, 2014). Trend 7 requires better skills and competency with behavioral cost management and improved capabilities will make cost management better and accurate IMA, 2014 b). However, there is a need to consider the organization culture and behavior, and factors associated with resistance to change. Activity-based costing (ABC) is more accurate than traditional costing yet it is not widely adopted in some industries. The trends in management accounting are useful to inform managers about changes in management accounting, and aid the management in making decisions.
