Summarize Assessments
In most instances, the teachers should evaluate the student's comprehension of what has been taught. One way that the teachers evaluate the students' understanding is through offering assignments. Even though there are many assignments that teachers can use, the most common ones are summative, diagnostic, and formative assessments. The summative assessment contains tests at the end of a period of instruction (Hein & Lee). The following term should be expanded to incorporate judgment according to all available evidence the student has learned after studying a topic. One of the pieces of evidence that shows student growth is evident when the teachers combine data for pretests, embedded assessment descriptions, and data for pretests. In most instances, this evidence is valuable in classrooms with less traditional paper-and-pencil activities, and most time is used in the talking. This process also furnishes outstanding evidence of students’ achievement to the parents.
On the other hand, a diagnostic is applied to discover the understanding and knowledge the student brings to a given subject. In most instances, the diagnostic assessment is easy when the teachers are sure that all their students can do the same thing, such as listening to a lecture, making identical measurements, and solving varying problems in a worksheet. Nevertheless, in the case where the teacher wants to know what the individual students can do and how every student is likely to deal with an inquiry, the teacher is supposed to engage these students in inquiry processes.
