Ballona Wetlands is an ecological site located in southern California. Furthermore, Machado Augustine established Ballona Wetland in 1920, and he used it for grazing cattle. Environmentalists later pushed to make the ranch an ecological reserve in the State of California. Ballona Wetlands contain more than 2000 acres of land, and with the help of Ruth Ransford, it was established as an ecological reserve in 2013. In 2007, Loyola Marymount University and other environmental activists received funding to protect the Ballona Wetlands from pollution. Some of the conditions under the program included a total barn of development on the 600 acres reserved. In 2015, more collaborations were formed to reserve overall projects to enhance the productivity of the Ballona Wetlands. Some of the essential agreements that were put in place include the preservation of 600 acres from development (Jeniffer, 2005).
Additionally, it is a freshwater wetland that serves California residents and serves wildlife in the region. The primary impact on the development of Ballona Wetland is the invasion of human activities. These activities pose a significant threat to the wetland; for example, for more than two decades, environmental activists have been condemning the aspect of natural exploitation. The Ballona Wetland is close to an urban area, and most real estate developers and industrialists are pushing hard to replace the marshy wetland with buildings. Human exploitation is the main threat to the development of Ballona Wetland (UCLA, 2015).
