Abstract
The chosen object is the phone one of the most common everyday objects in the US and they are now portable unlike in the past, where it was cumbersome to carry the devices. The phone is an essential device of communication device in the modern time, but as the device have become common place people do not pay much attention to hem unlike the nineteenth and the twentieth century. To understand how technology and people are likely to use the object of speculation is one to think about designing the objects. Previously communication using the phone was mostly from home, office or public telephone, but it is now possible from almost anywhere with phone signals. The phone changes also changes urban landscape and enables communication among different people at the same time. Future phones will likely blur the line between the physical world and their digital world and people are likely to be dependent on digital technology. Improved connectivity will influence changes in other spheres of life and considering what people will need in the future, will make it easier to adjust. Since phones are connected to the internet unlike the past, there are now concerns about data privacy and protection given that tech firms sell users data to third parties. The digital footprint is not only useful to a personalized advertising, but also political stakeholders seeking to target the people.
A greater number of cell phones have been sold and the devices have innovative features and the have changed the way people interact
The phone facilitates communication and was an important object to connect people and allow them to communicate with others over long distances. However, unlike today, where there are portable cell phones, previously phones were limited to homes, businesses and public telephone booths. Thus, there are changes as people are more connected, whereby communication by telephone, previously possible from home, office or public telephone, is now facilitated almost anywhere one is. People feel more secure at the time of an emergency as they use cell phones to ask for help or seek important information. The phone has evolved over time and speculation helps to identify ways in which the device could be used in the future.

Appadurai (2012) explores the concept of speculation focusing on investment trading and highlights that both contemplation and action are required in speculation, and the concept has increasingly become common in artistic imagination. It is a challenge to make future predictions, but focusing on the future possibilities of technology tools helps to understand the present and evaluate how the future is likely to be based on certain scenarios (Dunne & Fiona, 2013, pp 2-3). Design is partly future oriented, and focusing on the methodological approaches of different fields can provide insights on how to integrate experiential and theoretical approaches in design can be adopted now and n in the future (Dunne & Fiona, 2013, p. 5)
Nowadays the presence cell phone is among the gadgets that have had a profound impact on Americans and even influenced changes in the urban landscape. There are many towers with antennas, which enable telephone communication and even alter the architectural aspect of the some cities. The way urban areas change in the US also reveals profound social changes. The difference in how people use the telephone in the twentieth century and twenty first century also provides clues on how people viewed. There is emphasis on connectivity more than before since the advent of the internet and mobile devices. One way to understand how technology has influenced American culture is to observe how people use the technology in different places and how this has influenced changes in diverse landscapes.
When the telephone was first adopted in the 19th century, only a small segment of the population used them and even in the 20th century phones were still expensive for most people. Nowadays, there is more focus on connectivity and creativity when using telephones, but the phone infrastructure still played an important role in influencing adoption of the phone in different spheres of life.
