The Game of Thrones TV Series
The TV series, The Game of Thrones is one of the highest rated programs across the globe relative to the drama. The series brings out the politics and drama in the seven kingdoms of Westeros, which are divided among many noble families which have varying sizes and might. All of the noble families in the series are geared towards winning the ultimate position of ruling the seven kingdoms. This is referred to as the iron throne, where all the power of the kingdom is based. It is from the Iron throne that the rest of the kingdoms decent from forming the great houses which have rule over specific parts of the entire kingdom. A closer evaluation of the TV series reveals that there is are an estimated nine great houses all of which have a number of vassal houses below them. This is to mean that there are number of other smaller houses that are below the nine main ones. The most powerful great houses control large areas of the kingdom and have large armies protecting these areas with banners laid out across the countryside.
All of these areas pay tribute to the great house that control the area with reference to taxes and honor to the king with all they have. Persons that are born into the noble families are referred to as the highborns while those that are born of the lesser vassals are referred to as the lowborns. The latter are simply the commoners and they little on claim to the throne relative to their position in the society of Westeros.
A Song of Ice and Fire
According to the book there are an estimated 300 noble houses in Westeros all of which are sworn to the great houses. However, in the book the nomenclature of the houses is not as precise as it is in the TV series. Each of the regions from the seven kingdoms has an estimated one dozen major houses. To ensure that the show has specific music relating to the various houses, they use few of them. This makes it is easy to use specific music for the different houses and relate the different cultures.
Music and Film
Music and film are quite intertwined especially with the element of effectively creating the atmosphere the director wants. In the beginning music would be used in film to dull the sound of the projector (Schaefer, 2017). Music gives the acts significance a life. These are well orchestrated and they are not by chance. In his plays, Shakespeare would effectively incorporate music (Kabra, 2017).
‘The added music changes the audience's mood entirely and provokes strong emotions from them, or at least in a horror movie it lets us know when we should cover our eyes! Just remember that the music and the picture should relate to one another in order to inspire the desired effect upon the audience.’ (Bell, 2010)
At the same time, the pitch of the notes used in the song will have some element of significance and play a significant role in conveying the mood and more importantly music also helps the directors to strike the emotional cord and get the audience innately connected to the story (Bell, 2010). There is also some element of cultural significance that resonates with the historical background that the director is trying to achieve (Bell, 2010). As such, music helps in telling the story in the film (Pileberg, 2015).

One of the main aspects that can be identified in The Game of Thrones is the medievalism theme. This is to mean that the music that is incorporated in the game of thrones, has some subtle significance to the historical elements of the places that the story is related to. In the quest to make acts authentic and connect with the historical elements of the themes in the adoption, music in the game of the thrones is selectively and keenly incorporated in the different scenes involving the different noble houses and families, such as Arabic music in associated with Dothraki.
House of Stark
There are some very significant examples that backup this aspect of incorporating music in the game of thrones. The House of Stark for example, when one listens keenly, will notice more than a hint of Celtic music. For the viewers, listening to the welsh music they are able appreciate the historical element of the culture. (Cathrall, 1828) Largely, the music that is associated with the House of Stark is Celtic. Celtic is a term that is used to refer to the Celts; a group of people that can be historically traced to Europe and more especially Great Britain and Ireland. This was a population that lived in several parts of Europe especially to the north of the Mediterranean region. Much of the Celtic music can be attributed to the Irish culture relative to the fact that, the Celtics settled in the most of the areas that are occupied by the Irish. As such even their music was influenced by their environment. In the second season, first episode, the viewers listening to the welsh music are taken ...
