This paper discusses the meaning of Paleolithic Art by explaining their meaning, purpose and the reason for their existence before describing the theories on Stonehenge. The Paleolithic era began between two and half million years to three million years during the Old Stone Age period. However, for Art history purposes, Paleolithic art is about late upper Paleolithic era that began forty thousand years ago and extended to the Pleistocene ice age. Therefore, Paleolithic cave paintings identify cave paintings made in the Paleolithic era and the Pleistocene ice age (Gardener and Kleiner, 2010). The Paleolithic cave paintings exist because their artists wanted to communicate to future generations. Most of the paintings were animal paintings that mean ancient hunters believed in using magic for hunting. Some paintings also portrayed an understanding of paths taken by the moon when revolving round the sun. Ultimately, their purpose was to convey a message to their gods as a sign of respect and gratitude.
