I streamed a live jazz concert hosted by Smalls Jazz Club on February 28. The Smalls Jazz Club is a quaint establishment on 183 West 10th Street that hosts daily jazz concerts as part of its broader efforts at supporting upcoming singers in the New York jazz scene. The club prides itself in providing music lovers with an authentic live jazz experience: it is relatively small, and clubgoers are treated to hipper, low-key, improvised jazz in an intimate setting. The inauspicious jazz club is reputed for its cheap tickets, reasonably priced drinks, sociable atmosphere, responsive staff, and gifted jazz performers. The club does not have advance ticket sales, and jazz enthusiasts are keen on getting the best seats in the house to get there early and be first in line. Some days are pretty busy, and tickets are quickly sold out. To avoid missing out on the club’s underground jazz experience, I preferred to stream the live performance over the internet. The live jazz concert I streamed was played by Aaron Seeber (Drums), Jeremy Pelt (Trumpet), Charlie Sigler (Guitar), and Clovis Nicholas (Bass) (Smalls Jazz Club, 2023). The show, which was slow to start, lasted more than two hours and ended on an exhilarating note.
The club was already packed even before the show started: the audience was packed in tightly for the performance, and some few people appeared to have no seats.
