Giuseppe Torelli, who lived between 1658 and 1709, was a Baroque composer. His pieces played a vital role in developing instrumental concerto and concerto grosso ("Giuseppe Torelli- Bio, Albums, Pictures – Naxos Classical Music.", 2021). He was born in Verona, northern Italy but moved to Bologna in the early 1680s, where he joined Accademia Filarmonica at San Petronio, where he played violin with Capella Musicale ("Giuseppe Torelli (1658-1709)", 2021). Torelli studied composition and climbed the rank to become a maestro de Capella at the Imola Cathedral.
The violin concerto's birth came with publications of Torelli's initial pieces that included 12 Concertino per Camera for Violin and Cello, Op. 4. These pieces gave the violin extended solo passages accompanied by an orchestra. Torelli's significant achievements of the genre were the 12 Concerti Musicali and 12 Concerti Grossi con una Pastorale ("Giuseppe Torelli (1658-1709)", 2021). His initial works were considered conventional, but Torelli gradually improved in his following pieces.
