Annunciation Cestello is the artwork of Sandro Botticelli and it was the Italian Art fashion of the XV century which is referred to as the Renaissance. It is one of the greatest religious painting since it contains a religious message and its dimensions are 150*156cm and the technique that is used is that of tempera on wood. The artist made a great effort to depict the true drama that took place during the Annunciation on the birth of Jesus to a virgin lady in Nazareth called Mary. One of the things that contributed to the greatness of the artwork is because it took place during the Renaissance during which there were many changes that had taken place in the field of painting. The artists desired to come up with the lifelike portrayals of the body. As such the artworks that were produced during this time were as a result of a collaboration between science and art and Annunciation is one of those artworks since it presents to us the real image of the events that took place during the Annunciation of the birth of Jesus Christ.
One of the things that can be easily noticed about the painting are the movements that are portrayed by each of the images in the painting. Both Mary and the Archangel appears as if they are in movement and their pictures were captured when the Angel was talking to Mary. It can be well seen in the paintings through the presence of folding on their clothes. The folds that are seen on the cloth of the Angel can also be used to allude the sweeping entrance of the Angel in the house of Mary. The Angel was kneeling down when he was talking to Mary who appears to be standing and astonished by the message. The artist also paints the picture of Mary who is afraid as it is depicted in the scriptures. In the painting, Mary has spread out her hands perhaps to imply a sign of rejection of the message and also a sign of being frightened. Mary would not believe the message of the angel since she was a virgin and there is no way that she would conceive and become the Mother of God.
The background painting is also something that someone viewing the artwork cannot avoid taking notice. The background of the painting is made in such a way that even though the subject of the image that is Mary and the Archangel are in movement, the background appears to be still and it remains unrestrained by the movements. The floor is made up of rectangular paintings that depict a constant shape and the paintings on the wall also depict a cool environment despite the importance of the message that is being presented. The message presented is such great since it is about the annunciation on the birth of the Son of God who would come to save human beings from their sinful nature.
