Fed’s Actions During the COVID-19 Crisis
Do you think the actions of the Fed were warranted?
In my opinion, the Feds did everything necessary to protect the well-being of American citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the restrictions implemented include physical distancing, avoiding crowded social gatherings, wearing face masks, washing hands regularly, and the closure of various institutions, including schools and organizations dealing with non-essential services (Liu, 2020). In particular, coronavirus is a deadly virus whose infection rate is high. If the Feds did nothing to protect Americans, the disease might have crippled the economy, particularly since many individuals would have been infected. For example, if people from different professions were infected, including healthcare professionals, then it means the lack of adequate doctors and nurses to the already inadequate number available since the number of patients was rapidly increasing. In that light, the Fed made the best decision to safeguard the well-being of Americans since human capital in various sectors is crucial for economic growth. The most vulnerable populations, including older adults and those with chronic diseases, were encouraged to stay at home and adhere to the set restrictions. As such, it was through these COVID-19 restrictions that the country managed to overcome the pandemic.
Do you think the actions are too great or too little?
In reality, the Fed's actions were not too little or too great. But they were adequate. Although some people might say that the Feds acted harshly, I think it was necessary to control the infection rate to ensure that the available resources were enough to help those who became infected. COVID-19 being a deadly disease that was spread through the air, it was more challenging to curb its infection rate. Besides, humans are social creatures and many businesses cannot continue without people moving from one place to another and interacting physically. For instance, individuals have to go to the market to purchase necessities. Those with existing chronic conditions must visit hospitals so that they can get their respective treatments. When all these
