***Helpful Hint: In discussing a leaders statesmanship (for whichever contemporary you have chosen as well as their actions and decisions made), you must also study his or her statecraft (i.e. their political philosophy germane to the singular action that you have highlight as a signature of leaders statesmanship). If you have selected an action involving foreign policy, then you need to discuss the involvement of his philosophy of foreign policy. If you have selected an action involving a domestic issue, then I want to see that you understand the philosophy behind this decision. Moreover, you need to present the leaders critics, and how that affects the leaders overall statesmanship. In other words, a final paper that simply provides a bibliographical record focusing on the character traits, e.g. 'integrity' ' selflessness' ‘oratory’ etc. will be a deficient paper. Another helpful hint: Should statesmen become more ideological, or pragmatic and bipartisan in their statecraft?

Name:

Introduction
Despite the contend with differing values, wavering demands, the qualms of exasperating to falsify a good nation and other apparently intractable problems, statesmanship is still possible in today’s divided political context in the U.S.
Discussion: Acts of statesmanship among modern leaders
Statesmanship is defined as the moral act of a leader and which is aimed at creating a better society albeit in the future. A statesman takes personal risks to act within the provisions of the constitution in a bid to introduce a good element for the state in general. In today’s democratic society, leaders are faced with criticism as well as opposition from different walks of life. However, a statesmanship leader will always strive to overcome such criticism by serving moral ends. More often than not, a leader’s actions are questioned thanks to the many human rights and freedoms accorded by the call for democracy. Still, a good leader must always endeavor to use prudential judgment to achieve moral ends and within the provision of the constitution.
Most people are rights’ perverse and will go to great extents to criticize and even oppose decisions made by their leaders. Regardless of this, a leader who is practicing statesmanship with put the moral good of the society in the first position, acting within the framework of the constitution. While a decision may seem right, it may not be supported by the constitution and implementing it would amount to pseudo-statesmanship. A leader must be able to shape the character of the nation, by persuading his followers to embrace certain core values that will benefit the whole society.
During his first term when faced with pragmatic issues pertaining to foreign policy President Barack Obama adhered to Christian realism. In relation to this, during his 2008 presidential campaigns he depicted statecraft by using the slogan “Hope and Change” as a way to inspire voters. Obama used his Christian faith to shape his politics as well as his actions about foreign policy which is ideal according to Croft. The message of hope and change for the people is well asserted in the Bible. Obama’s critics perceive a president adrift that lacks a strategy in his foreign policy as well as accusing him of skepticism and heavy-handedness. However, he showed his statesmanship by his actions to end war on Iraq by pulling out of U.S...
