The electioneering process involves different parties who must be involved. The electoral systems are involved in shaping the party system even though they are formed in a context characterized by electoral competition. One of the most critical changes in the electoral laws was Duverger’s Laws that stated that “The simple majority single-ballot system favors the two-party system.” (365). I agree the laws were critical to improving the election process. The single ballot system makes more sense to the two-party systems since the population will be separated based on two major political parties. This means that the party that wins with a majority can easily be regarded as a valid winner. The proportional representation (PR) was a significant factor that encouraged multi-party systems.
