Part 1: Overview
The office HQ relocation project presents a progressive idea by the client to find an alternative space for the rapidly growing company. Implementing this idea emerged from the insufficient space and the non-strategic location that no longer satisfy the firm’s competitive and the workforce’s needs. As a result, the client requested relocation to premises meeting fundamental criteria. Thus, the primary goals comprised finding a suitable office space to accommodate the growing workforce and strategically accessible by the diverse stakeholders. In this context, the project manager should set appropriate objectives that align with these goals and a work breakdown structure to ensure the successful completion of each activity (Larson, 1). Such an aspect would ensure the firm achieves its objectives of relocating to its new headquarters within three months.
Completing the relocation requires the manager to assess the project thoroughly from the planning stage and determine the resources and appropriate budgetary estimates. According to Larson, a well-designed project outlines the critical components for seamless execution (1). Such a process involves varied aspects that comprise resource selection and their associated budget. As a result, the project manager effectively identified the diverse resources for this relocation. They include human expertise such as HVAC installers, electricians, landscaping experts, space planners, and carpenters. Others comprise the materials for upgrading the leased office space to meet the expected standards (Hassanain, 2). Aligning each resource with the estimated cost, which the project manager acquired using the bottom-up estimating approach, ensured the project had sufficient financing informed by expert insights (Larson, 1). However, rough estimates can also occur through top-down estimating tactics from the management in the initial design phases of the project. Such a consideration eliminates budgetary constraints that could arise from underestimation. Thus, identifying such resources and budgetary estimations ensured the seamless execution of activities within the estimated time.
Part 2: Explanation of Tasks and Timeline
The tasks and timeline presented in the Excel template reflect the work breakdown structure of the HQ office relocation project. It identifies all fundamental activities and their hierarchical positioning with others (Larson, 1). As a result, it makes it easy for the project manager to determine which activities to initiate first and progress subsequently while assessing the deliverables at each level. For instance, the first task in this project is the planning phase. The template indicates that the project manager must ensure the team completes a well-articulated plan considering all the resources, costs, and associated risks....
