The use of social media by both small and large organizations has become prevalent in the contemporary era of social media marketing. Social media platforms offer opportunities to reach out to a vast number of audiences, in essence, positioning and promotion. Still, they also act as interactive platforms that companies can use to engage their esteemed and prospective customers (Mahoney and Tang 16). The manner in which Hyper Holdings Limited has encouraged its employees as well as the public relations and customer care services to leverage the power of social media, giving them the autonomy on how they use their social media platforms, has worked quite well so far. The social media popularity has enabled the company to take on its competitors in the hotel industry, aiding in popularizing the chain of hotels and vocational amenities it owns and manages. However, there is a catch with the prevalent use of social media, more so touching on integrity and ethical issues, necessitating the company's adoption and implementation of social media policies.
As much as the use of social media is crucial in building a company's reputation, it can as well be a major threat to its reputation. Take, for instance, a situation where a Hyper employee exercises their autonomy with the use of social media to post content related to the company on their social media pages. Any other content posted by the employee, be it positive or negative, will be associated with the company, bearing in mind the digital footprint behind social media. Negative posts on social media, regardless of their intended audience or cases of rogue users or hackers, can damage brand loyalty and reputation within no time, considering the speed with which content spreads on the platforms.
Integrity is the other company value that is on the line with the prevalent use of social media. Social media is a virtual space where everybody gets to throw anything at their comfort. Most of the time, people tend to overlook some of the ethical values that define a society.
