What the Heck is Service Learning?

Coursework Instructions:
One of the benefits of teaching for social justice is that teachers and their students can get involved in service-learning as a way to learn the curriculum while also addressing real-life problems that face local communities. Extending learning beyond the classroom can lead to increased retention and allows students to practice their critical thinking skills. After analyzing “What the Heck is Service Learning?” research other service-learning opportunities for K-12 students that promote cultural knowledge and the principles of social justice. Using the “Service-Learning Ideas Template,” submit a list of five potential service-learning projects for K-12 students. While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
