Schools, students, and families can greatly benefit from partnerships with businesses and organizations in their communities. It is important to understand how to purposefully network and develop working relationships with community partners as they can assist in supporting better student outcomes as well as providing quality resources outside of the classroom for families. Often, these community partners have funds, grants, and other services and resources they can offer to schools. Making these partnerships a priority can help schools attain resources that can affect student outcomes. For this assignment, research school/district partnerships that you can create in your community. Identify eight organizations in your area (e.g., restaurants, stores, service businesses, community service organizations) and how they can offer funds, services, and resources for your school. Part 1: Form Letter Create a 100-250 word form letter that you can email or hand deliver/mail to organizations to request that they partner with your school. A form letter can be sent to many different audiences without changing the tone or language of the letter. Your letter/email must include the following: Professional, polite language Statement of the work the organization does and its importance to early childhood development and education How community partnerships support young children’s learning and development and support families and build partnerships between early learning settings, schools, and community organizations and agencies A statement of thanks/gratitude for their time Your contact information and the date by which you would like a reply Part 2: Choosing Organizations In addition, create a 250-500 word listing that details which eight organizations in your area you are choosing. NOTE: Your principal must approve your choice of organizations before you send them the email/letter. Include the following for each organization: Name and contact information, including website if available How you would like to work with the organization (i.e., what they may be able to offer as a partner with your school) How the organization might promote diverse or cultural learning How the organization relates to students’ personal, family, and community experiences and cultural diversity to promote student outcomes Support your response with 2-3 research-based sources. APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
