____(ii)___The World; Remember Yellow Journalism
Bias in the articles; the title of article “Taking a Dip in History: A pool Party at Hearst Castle”- is biased and has prejudice connotations. Although she might have intended to use pun as a literary device-dipping into the swimming pool at Hearst Castle. It is quite evident to the intelligible audience that the “dip” in this sense symbolizes the era of sensational journalism that was synonymous with William Randolph Hearst. And its negative effect on society-a dip in history as contrasted with progress. Although affiliated to The New York Times, the writer Patricia Leigh Brown makes personal statements in the article without any accreditation__ to any sources. She compares Mrs. Littrell’s descendancy of the stairs to the swimming pool to Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Cary Grant, and Charlie Chaplin and does not reference where we can find such a claim. __(ii) The World; Remember Yellow Journalism-The article’s title is quite sensational and has a stereotypical bias. The writer is telling us about William’s biography but deviates us only to focus on his dark past, which was Yellow Journalism. The writer, Clifford Krauss, also affiliated to The New York Times, uses personal statements without literal evidence to discredit Randolph Hearst. In covering the Cuban uprising, Clifford writes that Hearst gifted a “ceremonial sword “with a diamond-studded ivory handle to the Cuban rebel commander, General Maximo Gomez. He does not credit his statement, and this is a type of bias portraying William as trying to bribe the commander to get firsthand news from the Cuban uprising.
