My Writing Process: A Reflection
In writing, I have specific steps and unique rituals I follow. Generally, I am required to submit papers for different assignments I have at college. Understandably, all college-assigned papers are formal in academic style and require specific writing instructions and formatting. That said, writing, as a process, is unique and shows every writer’s own style and character. In contrast to a general belief that formal, academic writing kills creativity, writing college essays do boost creativity. This is a lesson I have learn in my writing process.
I start writing by carefully reading my prompt. Typically, prompts offer direct, sometimes indirect, ways to start and finish an essay. That is why, reading prompts carefully is one great way to pick up early clues on actually writing an essay. I usually pick one or a few words from my prompt and start an initial, general research process. In so doing, I initiate a “spark” by which I could generate ideas to include in an initial outline.
