Understand the connections between the emergence of the United States as an imperial power and the increasing size and power of the U.S. government.

Consider the place of the United States on the world stage in World War I and its aftermath.
Explain the seeming contradictions of the 1920s: Prohibition and the Jazz Age; the horrors of WWI and the exuberance of The Roaring 20s; the Harlem Renaissance and the re-segregation of the Federal government; and the democratization of the Stock Market and the power of big businesses.
Examine the many facets of the era known as the Great Depression and the New Deal.

M3 Discussion 2: The Great Depression and the New Deal
Many of the themes of this module center on social and political responses to periods of tumultuous change. For this post, choose four different types of people who lived during the Great Depression and the New Deal, and discuss what they would think about the United States throughout the period. Make an effort to be diverse in your choices because that will allow you to explore a variety of viewpoints. After all, America is not just one thing about anything. Also make sure you are connecting them to what happened in history.
There is a great deal of latitude here for you to choose types of individuals. The types can come from occupations, locations, social status, gender, age, etc.

In studying the Great Depression and the New Deal era, it is important to acknowledge the varying perspectives of individuals who lived through this tough period in U.S. history. In my discussion, I cover the opinions of four distinct types of people.
First, we have the “Unemployed Worker” who during the Great Depression was confronted with harsh moments of instability. Many of these people found it difficult to get jobs, give their families adequate food, and afford safe housing. For them, the New Deal programs such as the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), were convenient considering their situation (Summers, 2007). These programs gave them jobs, income, and meaning, without which they would otherwise face more difficulties.
