In this article, Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory summarizes the complex and multidimensional barriers that affect, impede, or prevent females from seeking or remaining in coaching positions, in addition to factors that support and facilitate career advancement and retention. The literature's Barriers and supports are organized from proximal (individual) to most distal (socio-cultural) to the coach. We conclude by identifying gaps in the research. The model can be used as a reflective heuristic to educate about the numerous dynamic organizational and societal barriers and supports engaged with by female coaches. In doing so, productive coping strategies can be learned, and solutions and policy changes can be generated to increase opportunities for female coaches and make their work environment increasingly inclusive, positive, and supportive. (1) The NFL management should have one-on-one meetings with coaches and staff explaining how hiring coaches should be based on experience and qualifications, regardless of race. (2) The NFL implemented new diversity, fairness, and non-biased policies, stating that all coaches, players, and staff should have equal rights. I think the entire NFL should be re-evaluated regarding its actions regarding equal opportunity. I believe diversity in 2024 is very important because all cultures can bring new concepts to corners of business and the NFL.
