1 In the article, Jihadism was defined as the extremist practice which prefers the use of deeply radical methods in order to achieve their wants. However, Barber also stated that one of the greatest misconception of us from the outside world, is that Jihadism is just as similar as Islam as a religion. And, thus, in order to prove his point, he suggested that even us in the West have a similar idea to Jihadism. But first, in order to make this comparison, he proposed the concept of the “sterile cultural monism” which characterizes Jihadism that we could see today. In relation to the West, he proposed the concept of McWorld and suggested that this our own version of a sterile cultural monism in the West. More particularly, he said that the MCWorld “the world of "shallow but uniform" consumer culture seen in shopping malls across the developed world, and encroaching on the developing world fast” CITATION Lec14 \l 1033 (Lechner and Boli). To further this, the article stated that even if this problem is not as apparent as Jihadism, it still has repercussions that almost equal it. As consumerism continues to dictate everything, money then becomes the most powerful force in the culture, while traditional structures such the state, and its responsibilities continues to erode some of its responsibilities.
