Coursework Instructions:
In this Module we will look at five "Hot Button" issues that Americans debate today. Of course, there are other issues that are also important, but we chose five to follow the themes of the class: Land (our country was built on Native land), Labor (by enslaved Africans and European and Asian immigrants), Ethnic Identity (we either value or devalue our differences), and Freedom of Religion (from First Nations to the newest immigrants, who was considered worthy of citizenship changed as the nation grew, but one guarantee has always been freedom of religion). These roots of nation-building are evident in our five Hot Button Issues. As much as possible, we've collected views from the affected groups. What you have read in the news or seen on TV may differ. Study these videos and articles by or about people speaking to the issues that concern them. Then reflect: What did you already know about these issues? Where and how did you learn what you already know? How are the selected views the same as, or different than, what you already heard about these issues? Do the differences challenge your beliefs in any way? If so, how? If not, why not?

The opinions from the recent readings reveal a more elaborate prospect of the issues affecting the oppressed ethnic group than what has been presented in...
