Critical Analysis and Discussion Questions (Federal Executive)
1. Necessity of Government
Government is important not just for managing politics but rather for something far broader and far more constant. While regulation of politics is a prime function, government must also enable, order, provide public goods, take care of national security, and promote the general welfare. The government's framework for social conduct, economic conduct, and individual rights appears through the laws and regulations of the state. If there were no governance, the world would not function together for common problems like building infrastructure, providing healthcare, and protecting the environment. For much of human history, societies lacking a state have been politically unstable and, more often than not, internally conflicted. Therefore, no country can survive without the government, although it can function in a limited capacity without it (Powell, Browne, and Tranzor 21).
