Essay Outline
A typed outline of your proposed essay project using the format below (See Part 3 of the food porn assignment above for the first essay topic prompt). First, explain each part. What is your opening supposed to convey? What is your counterargument? Please use complete sentences (as opposed to a list of vague details). This outline is meant to set up the structure of argument more than it is to detail out every piece of it. For now, use this to think about and arrange ideas into this structure in the most effective way you can in order to convey your "slant." Note: As you're planning, it's not required that you include outside research or sources in this essay, but you can if you like.
1. BEGINNING
Opening
Introduces your topic and hooks your audience (The Reasonable Person).
Note: The "reasonable person" is a way to think broadly about your audience. Think of your peers as your audience of reasonable people, for example, but don't assume your audience has read or watched the material you have.
Counterargument
The main challenge to your argument.
Argument
Explain your argument (this is your thesis or core slant).
2. DEVELOPMENT
Support
How will you develop and support this argument? Remember, this is not a research essay, so you are not required to do library type research (you can do some if you wish). Your research here is primary--based on observations, experience, anecdote, field research...
3. END
Conclusion
Without repeating your argument, how can you conclude with something provocative?

My topic is on soup as part of a larger meal and the awkwardness it prompts as one takes it. I believe this can be an interesting topic of discussion among my peers and even working adults. Taking soup is not something I often find comfortable in meals. I might have this opinion by myself, but I believe a significant proportion of people out there share my view. Therefore, my topic is specially designed to communicate with them. I believe they will find my topic of discussion quite interesting.
Counterargument
Now, this is not to say that there could be a difference in opinion regarding taking soup. I am sure that there are also many people out there who do enjoy taking soup. They pick it up by the bowl, savor, and drink it. It is for this reason that I also intend to include a counterargument as part of my essay. The counterargument is supposed to help both sides of the opinion on soup taking to the fore. This way, my intended audience can have an all-rounded discussion on my topic.
Argument
My argument is that taking soup can be an awkward process, especially when it is part of a larger meal. This is the statement I intend to reiterate as my thesis. Before stating my thesis, I will provide a compelling introduction to highlight my intended topic o...
