DNR Ink Discussion

In this discussion, I'd like us to consider the various viewpoints relevant to DNR tattoos - doctors, medical and / or legal experts, and patients.

First, briefly summarize the various viewpoints accounted for in each article. ***There are articles attached.

Then, briefly explain your viewpoint on these particular cases, and DNR tattoos in general:

• What do you think of DNR tattoos?

• What's your reaction to the 2 patient cases presented in the articles?

• Where you surprised by anyone's actions or viewpoints?

• How do you think doctors should handle DNR tattoos?

And lastly, are there any other viewpoints important to this issue not presented in these articles? Who's and what relevance do they have? What about tattoo artists? What about other patients or groups advocating for other types of medical tattoos? For example, take a look at these!

Summary
One of the viewpoints held in the articles is that DNR tattoos are confusing because they do not account for the current wishes of the patient and that the patient could have had the tattoos when they were intoxicated.
However, another viewpoint claims that DNR tattoos should signify something and that doctors should honor the patient’s silent request. The argument here is that if DNR tattoos are considered confusing, then the same could be said of the papers as well as notes or wishes left online by the patients.
The third viewpoint recommends that doctors could employ temporary measures which would give them time to know what the current wishes of the patients are.
What do you think of DNR tattoos?
DNR tattoos should be banned, and patients with DNR wishes should be required to renew their wishes after a certain period.
What’s your reaction to the two patient cases presented in the articles?
