The article has supported the generally accepted thinking on the topic of the formation of complex and asymmetric cell shapes in bacteria. The authors identified the fibrous aspect of the bacteria cytoskeleton necessary in the determination of the Caulobacter crescentus’ vibrioid or helical shapes. In exploring the topic, the article undertook a visual screen of a library of random transposon (Tn5) insertion mutants. The experiment observed the vibrioid shape under natural and laboratory growth conditions. However, one of the bacteria was seen to adopt helical cell shape for extensively staying in a stationary state.
