The Columbian exchange involved transferring plants, animals, diseases, and culture between America, Western Africa between the 15th and the 16th centuries. One disease that emerged during this exchange was smallpox. The Old World and Native Americans had different diseases ailing them. From their publication, Nunn and Qian (165) established that the peoples’ immune systems adapted to specific attacks to the body.
