Baudelaire’s Concept of Modernity
Baudelaire expresses the necessity of appreciating the volatility of modernity. To truly make a mark through art, an artist should be able to show the beauty at a particular point in time. According to Baudelaire, modernity is always changing, and the only way to capture its magnificence is by capturing its various aspects as it progresses. It seems that he felt the stresses of watching his city transform. He, however, appreciates that the change is inevitable and beautiful. Artists attempting to capture this beauty should be open to discovering new things. (Baudelaire 1) Consequently, these artists bare the task of depicting this beauty in different parts of the transitional journey.
The Persistence of Memory
The Persistence of Memory was a 20th-century Spanish artist, Salvador Dali (Dali).Certainly, this painting taps into subconscious feelings, as opposed to being transparent and direct. The subject of this surrealist piece appears to be time. The fading of time, as depicted by this piece, shows the fragility of the present (Salvador 1). It attempts to show just how quickly the events of the present can fade from our minds. The artist's decision to create an irrational picture well compliments the idea of changing times; it is congruent with Baudelaire's thoughts on the versatility of modernity. Salvador, through this painting, appropriately illustrates the present as inconstant.
