Key Components in Collaboration and Consultations
Working together is vital. Collaboration is known to have many benefits in organizations when all the elements are followed. The following are the key components of collaboration that organizations and individuals need to observe. Cooperation focuses on a person`s willingness to listen to, to learn from others and to provide solutions when needed (Porter et al., 2018). On the other hand, assertiveness is an individual`s willingness to provide information while valuing and supporting their personal experience. The cooperation and assertiveness of every member implies that their decisions are based on consensus. In addition it helps both teachers to plan activities that will give people living with disabilities the opportunity to collaborate together to learn and grow from one another.
In autonomy, the provider has authority to make decisions independently and take part in providing care. It is based on an individual scope of practice and expertise. When one is not able to work independently, it makes their work unmanageable (Porter et al., 2018). Responsibility involves accountability for every decision and actions one take. In communication, every team member needs to be responsible for their content and how they relate with the people they are communicating with. Teachers need to provide critical information to the individual leaving with disabilities regarding the issues relating to decision-making. Communication help teachers demonstrate their competency.
In addition to communication, coordination is critical a vital element of collaboration. Coordination involves efficiency and effectiveness in providing solutions. For every situation of a person with disability, teachers need to be clear on the individuals who will take the lead to ensure that the plan is implemented. Having an effective and efficient coordination will go a long way in protecting against unintentional duplication and ensure that care is provided in the best way possible.
