First-Person Dialogue in Television: "Peep Show"

Please watch one or two episodes of Peep Show, an award-winning British comedy show. How does the first-person POV shots of the two main characters affect your feeling towards the characters? Do you feel more empathy towards Jeremy and Mark as a result of "seeing through their eyes," or does their POV heighten their absurdity or character flaws? Notice how dialog works in relation to the POV shots. Other characters speak directly to the camera when they speak to them, but in their POV shots Jeremy and Mark mostly speak in their heads using voice-over. What are strengths and weaknesses of this narrative approach? What are the possibilities and limitations of dialogue in from a first-peson POV? Are there other examples of effective (or usefully ineffective) first-person POV dialogue from other shows or films?
