Question#1: Which form of balance is most effective for the ideas you want to express?
Balance in art is one of the core principles of design. It is as important as are movement, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, pattern, variety, and unity. Balance describes how different elements of art like the shape, line, value, form, space, texture and color have been related to one another. There are three main forms of balance: symmetrical balance, radial balance, and asymmetrical balance. For the ideas I want to express, the most important form of balance is the symmetrical balance. This is because I want my piece look equal from all directions, meaning it should leave a good impression on the audience irrespective of which angle they choose to view it. Symmetrical balance can be established when I draw an imaginary line through the center of the work, vertically or horizontally, and then I will have to make all the halves look identical.
Question#2: Which is the dominant form in your composition? Is its dominance conceptually justified?
In my composition, the most dominant form of balance is an asymmetrical balance. This is because both sides of the composition do not look same; instead, they appear to have unequal visual weights and this is what I need to pay attention to as my most favorite form of balance is the symmetrical balance. Colors have been distributed unequally, and this may leave a bad impression on the viewer. Asymmetrical balance is easier to achieve than symmetrical balance as we do not need to draw a line from the center to divide the piece into equal halves. The dominance of a piece with asymmetrical balance can be justified conceptually only when we give equal visual weight to all of its parts.
