The core aspects of the theory are the social, economic, and environmental factors. An organization at all times should strive to be balanced on all the three bottom lines. These factors put into consideration the people, the earth, and the profit of the organization. Sustainability of an organization is identified through a series of evaluations. However, the bottom line is that the organization must engage in environment friendly activities support the interests of the society and make economic sense through income generation (Allen, 2008).
Tourism industry events
It is pertinent to note that the development of sustainable events management policies in the tourism industry starts at the structure of the policy-making organization. The planning process of events should reflect the interests of the society and put into consideration the long-term implications of the event being planned. All the stakeholders should be involved in decision-making process and policy generation. In the tourism industry, some of the key players are residents of the tourism destination and organization involved in the event planning (Dickson, 2010).
Sustainability of a tourism event policy should be articulated at the planning stages of the event management process. The sustainability of a policy framework is based on several themes of the tourism industry. An events manager should put into use eco products at any level of implementation. This reflects the concern to the surroundings and the welfare of the society. The materials used in the implementation of different activities that constitute an event should also represent the communities and practices of the society in the vicinity. These include use of technological developments friendly to the environment. Most importantly, these technologies must be able to conserve energy and enhance the efficiency of the organization. The use of technologies that are detrimental to the service delivery and event management of an organization should be avoided.
Sustainable event management policies
The policies, which govern sustainable event management, can be defined through different standards. The ISO 20121 is a basic standard that stipulates the substantial measures to be taken to ensure sustainable event management. Compliance with these standards in the tourism sector reflects an organizations interest to protect the interests of the society and protect the environmental. Social progress is the foundation of this British standard. An event planning organization is expected to be vigilant in identification of the activities that have implications to the environment. The standards are instrumental in the development of a system that ensures a balanced approach towards the progress of the society through different events. Tourism events management organization with this British standard certification has a distinct direction and approach of event management that can be understood across the world. The certification is a clear indication that all issues have been put into consideration and that a systematic approach was used in the development of activities constituting an event.
The policies described within the standard provide clear approaches, which are to, be instrumental in ensuring stakeholder engagement in the implementation of different events. Stakeholder engagement is also instrumental in reducing the complaints received due to an event organized by the organization. The policies are also instrumental in enhancing the organizations reputation since the selection of sub contractors in events management is done through a specified criterion, to ensure quality and compliance with the standards (Bowdin, 2012).
The policies help an events management organization to minimize the wastage of resources cutting down on the operational costs involved in the organization. It is pertinent to note that cost management is a complex are that requires adequate research to establish the most appropriate structures to be adopted in event management.
All the activities should be evaluated for the carbon emissions involved. Moreover, the planning process determines efficiency of the resource allocation process and the standards set within the organization. The policies are instrumental in helping an organization identify trends in the tourism event management sector and spot the best. The strategic decisions within the organization are well guided through the systematic procedures. Process mapping is a critical aspect involved in event planning that is instrumental in enhancing process efficiency. When the process is highly efficient an organization, is able to achieve its objective though effective planning. All these are achieved in an employee friendly environment since their interests are put into consideration in the standards. The sustainable evnt policies are related to the events company in that they help the company be able to carry out its activities and also know what to follow as it conducts its eventful activities.
