Hello I attached the reading and also included the instructions below. You will write a Reading Journal entry for this assigned readings. The journal entry will summarize the reading’s key points, including, but not limited to, the author’s subject, purpose, question(s), thesis, and sources. Your entries will also include brief assessments of the reading’s strengths and/or weaknesses, supported by examples. You may choose to discuss both a strength and a weakness, or you may focus on one or the other (i.e., it is not necessary for you to include both a strength and a weakness in your assessment paragraph). Paraphrase the author’s main points, and use direct quotations sparingly Cite specific pages of the readings using Chicago style footnotes. The templates include examples of full and short form footnote citations for the readings. Please see the template below. Type your summary paragraph here. The first paragraph should summarize the assigned reading. Refer to the author and the reading by name. In this case, the reading is a chapter from an edited book. Refer to the chapter title (i.e., “The Destruction of Wendake (Huronia), 1647-1652”) in the main text, but not the book title (i.e., The Cambridge World History of Genocide, Volume II: Genocide in the Indigenous, Early Modern, and Imperial Worlds from c. 1535 to World War One). The first time you refer to an author, use their first and last names (i.e., Ned Blackhawk). Use only their last name (i.e., Blackhawk) for all subsequent mentions. Do not refer to authors by their first names only. Always capitalize authors’ names. Use footnotes when quoting or paraphrasing. To insert a footnote in Microsoft Word, go to References > Insert Footnote or Insert > Footnote (depending on which version of Word you use). No bibliography is required for this assignment. I’ve included an example of a footnote in Chicago Style for the Blackhawk reading. In Chicago Style, it is only necessary to provide the full reference once. After you provide the full reference, you can use a short-form citation. Here is a short-form Chicago style footnote. Type your assessment paragraph here. Avoid commenting on the entertainment value of the reading. Writing in the first person can be useful and important, but it is often unnecessary and serves only to clutter the text. For example, instead of writing “I think that the author makes a convincing argument” write “The author makes a convincing argument.”
