Societal problems have become a primary issue in educational institutions. The issues are not only affecting adults but also young individuals in the population. Racism has taken over American society whereby students of color are discriminated against (Loop, 2020). Drug and substance abuse is also a significant problem in educational institutions. For instance, a survey carried out on American students revealed that 39% of the population indulged in alcohol drinking (Loop, 2020). Loop (2020) argues that unplanned pregnancy is also a major societal issue affecting teens and their education since most girls drop out of school, realizing their conditions.
At the micro-level, the social problems within institutions are perpetuated when both parents and the institutions do not take the necessary actions to prevent and protect students from getting into the issues. Most parents judge the kids and believe they do not hold to societal morals instead of showing them the right ways and helping them deal with the problems distracting their peace at school. They could be keen on noticing any changes in their children's behavior and come up with strategies to identify the source of the distraction and pave the way for the achievement of solutions. The tactic could help in minimizing to eradicate the societal problems in educational institutions and making the environments a place of success and not a distraction for the students. Unfortunately, the ignorance portrayed by parents and the institutions perpetuates the prevalence of social problems leaving many students battling issues like drug abuse.
