Client Description of Situation
Moore is 36-years-old and single. She had struggled with depression for the most part of her life. Moore said that “I’ve struggled with medications than you could believe. Some medications actually made me feel worse. Other medications worked for a while.” Moore’s condition has been deteriorating after she lost her job as a loan officer when the bank she was working for downsized. She was left with no medical benefits, making it difficult for her to pay for her medications and therapy. The client wants to get her life better.
Client Needs
As a substance abuse counselor, I think Moore needs therapy to avoid alcohol and fall into depression again. She says that “I have no healthcare and no way to get my medication. I’ve started to drink to help me sleep.” Indeed, it appears that Moore is drinking so that she can get enough sleep. As such, we will develop a treatment plan to help her avoid alcohol. Moreover, Moore needs a job to sustain herself since she has been using her savings, which are almost depleted.
Client Strengths
Moore has shown numerous strengths that can be incorporated with a good treatment plan to help her overcome depression. First, she knows that she needs help to overcome her psychological issue. Second, Moore can keep a job since were it not for the bank she worked for downsizing, she would not have been unable to pay for her medication and therapist. Third, she took a step to visit our agency after seeing on the TV how it has helped many people, meaning she wants to be helped to get her life back too. Fourth, after losing her job as a loan officer, Moore has tried applying and going for interviews. Fifth, she is ready to work in other job specialties and join a community college to study further. Overall, Moore is willing and ready to be helped to overcome depression and secure a job.
