It is long, but it will ensure that you don’t have to go back and redo your work. This assignment can be completed in one of two ways: You may write the personal ads and your comparison analysis of them, OR You may use a generative AI service of your choice to write both personal ads, but you must still write the comparison analysis yourself. If you choose this option, you will also need to write a brief fact-check and evaluation of the AI-generated content. Stuck on which AI to use? Bing AI has been tested and is capable of being used for this assignment. Guidance on using AI from SUNY Empire’s library. In particular, it would be a good idea to consult the Citing AI Tools tab. Required Contents for Options Non-AI option contents Your personal ad (written yourself) The personal ad for a hypothetical person in another culture (written yourself) Your comparison analysis of those two personal ads (written yourself) AI option contents The prompts you entered for your personal ad and for the hypothetical person in the 'other culture' (written yourself) The personal ad that the AI generated for your culture and for the hypothetical person in the 'other culture', with MLA or APA citation for AI generated content (AI written) The prompt you entered followed by the personal ad for that hypothetical person that the AI generated Your comparison analysis of those two personal ads (written yourself) Your fact-check and evaluation of how the AI did at this task (written yourself) Step by step instructions Non-AI Version 1. Your personal ad. You will write a brief personal column style ad for your ideal spouse or partner. Use the format and style typical of such ads. You can use a search engine to find many examples on the Internet. Be sure to include all the characteristics, elements, and traits you would want in your perfect life partner. Keep the course material in mind - the ad should be grounded in the social processes that shape marriage in your culture. In other words, the ad needs to reflect your culture's ideology, kinship patterns (descent and alliance traditions), marriage practices (age, arranged or choice, within social class- endogamous or hypergamous, etc.), post-marital residence patterns, etc. You will be citing the textbook and/or other course materials in your ad, as you address those topics/factors. Here are some examples of personal ads can be found here: 15 Amazing Personal Ads From the ’90s, Presented With Commentary (Jen Doll, Dec.12, 2014, New York Magazine) to give you an idea of the style. 2. Personal ad for hypothetical person from another culture. Select one of the cases that you have read in the Kinship and Gender book, or one of the ethnographic videos. Write a personal ad that a person, or their parent or matchmaker as appropriate in that particular culture, might write in looking for a spouse. Include all the features, elements and traits that would be important for a successful marriage in that culture, given the social processes shaping marriage in that specific culture. In other words, this ad also needs to reflect the hypothetical person’s culture's ideology, kinship patterns (descent and alliance traditions), marriage practices (age, arranged or choice, within social class- endogamous or hypergamous, etc.), post marital residence patterns, etc. You will be citing the textbook and/or other course materials in your ad, as you address those topics/factors. 3. The comparison analysis. Write a brief essay comparing and contrasting your ad with the ad of the hypothetical person from another culture. What do the similarities and differences tell you about how marriage and gender roles are shaped by the social processes, including kinship, that drive and reproduce culture? In your analysis, be sure to properly use at least three anthropological terms related to marriage from this module (monogamy, endogamy, exogamy, matrilocal, patrilocal, etc.) You will find helpful information in the glossary at the end of Kinship and Gender book by Linda Stone. As you write your comparison analysis, you will be citing the textbook and/or other course materials. AI Version 1. Instead of writing the ad yourself, you will create a prompt for a generative AI service of your choice. Start by creating a Word document in which you write out all the characteristics, elements, and traits you want in your ideal marriage or romantic partner. The prompt need to tell AI to include ideology, kinship patterns (descent and alliance traditions), marriage practices (age, arranged or choice, within social class- endogamous or hypergamous, etc.), post-marital residence patterns, etc. Copy and paste both the prompt and the AI output into your Word document. 2. Instead of writing the ad for the 'other culture' you selected, you will cretae a prompt for a generative AI service of your choice. Start by creating a Word document in which you write out all the characteristics, elements, and traits that you and then your hypothetical person from another culture would want in your ideal marriage or romantic partner. The prompt need to tell AI to include ideology, kinship patterns (descent and alliance traditions), marriage practices (age, arranged or choice, within social class- endogamous or hypergamous, etc.), post-marital residence patterns, etc. Copy and paste both the prompt and the AI output into your document. 4. The analysis of AI output. Provide the name and URL of the generative AI service that you used. Verify the facts. Note which facts it left out, if any. Note any concepts or ideas it made up (“hallucinated,”) if any. Note any stereotypes/ethnocentric beliefs evident in the AI’s output, if any - or did it provide culturally relativistic information? If the AI created any references/citations, are they correct? *Course Materials: Linda Stone and Diane King. Kinship and Gender: An Introduction. 6th Edition (2019). Routledge. Note: A free e-book version Finished product to hand in: All sections will be combined in one Word document about 1300 to 2000 words long. This is equivalent to 5-7 double spaced pages in 12 point Times New Roman font. It can be longer if you choose the AI option. Other than the personal ads, which have their own style, the paper should be clearly and simply written in your best academic English. Cite your sources (in APA) whenever you write something that is not your own idea or common knowledge. For the purposes of this assignment, cultural details about marriage and kinship that you might consider common knowledge should still be cited. Include a reference list/bibliography at the end of your paper. Proofread your work before submitting it – there should be no spelling or grammar errors, and the paper should free of typos and have section headings and paragraphs. You can see how your work will be evaluated using the Rubric for Written Assignments. I am thirty-something but still eternally youthful, and I can be your next amazing rendezvous. I am living the hustling lifestyle of New York while juggling social and work life. Working as an engineer, I consider myself a craftsman who balances his imagination and reasoning. Here’s who I am: a couch potato who also loves adventures. For me, weekend mornings begin slowly, and evenings are occupied with exploring secret spots in whimsical New York. I am highly passionate about my profession and have suitable qualifications. Life is short, and you need good company to make every moment meaningful. Enjoying a healthy lifestyle is one of my priority. As someone who loves to explore and is a fitness freak, I climb Adriandacks and wander till the sun goes down. Meaningful conversations and sudden vacation plans are something I am always up for. Good humor is a trait that I always welcome. You: You are someone who is always unapologetically true to themselves. You don't care about society's expectations and have a carefree and soft heart. Your age does not matter because, in your heart, you are still a child who believes in the "wishing wells" but is still intelligent and intellectual enough to figure out the riddles that life throws in the way. You bring the best of both worlds by wearing designer fashion and hiking attire. You are up for lowkey and slow hangouts or loud and adventurous outings. My cultural beliefs are a mix of old and new views. My family taught me that bonds and lifetime relationships are founded on mutual respect and compassion. I want us to build a household that values a quality life. Let us give a chance to know each other, grow closer, get married, and settle in residence patrilocality. We are a couple made in heaven if you share our adventurous nature and religiously follow old classics. Feel free to swipe right and straight into my heart if you want a romantic tale only seen in books. Note: Unlock my heart by wearing your smile. ...
