Ethical Concerns When Conducting Research

Coursework Instructions:

Hello there, I really appreciate the paper you wrote for me last time. Would you help responding to the following post. I wanna you to write a response/replay for the following paper.

Ethical Concerns:

"There are some general ethical concerns to be considered when conducting research. First of all, the means in which data is collected could be cruel or unusual. An example of this would be giving children a new over-the-counter sinus medication for testing to see what adverse effects might occur. Statistics are used in almost any field and most definitely in the pharmaceutical field, so the previous example (albeit highly illegal) is a possible concern. "Today statisticians in all different areas, from criminal justice to geophysics to psychology to determining whether the "hot" hand really exists in the NBA, find themselves using basically the same techniques to answer different questions" (Salkind & Frey). Another unethical approach to statistics is how the information is utilized. An unethical example of this would be someone who uses sport statistics for betting and having an upper hand on knowing winners, player rankings, team stats, etc.

As for ethical treatment towards your fellow man and the Scripture, we can all think about the basis of ethically treatment, the Ten Commandments. These are pillars to live by about how to treat your fellow man. Thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, just to name a few. Our God set down the foundation for ethics and for all of us to live a morally righteous life, as we are all but children of his image. "For Christians, an even greater incentive to explore biblical ethics is the fact that ethics finds its foundation in God himself. Biblically speaking, it is God, as Creator of a morally ordered universe, and as an absolutely perfect being, who is the author of morality" (Noelliste).

Practical Application:

Through some research online I was able to find a very insightful data research finding by the CDC. It was a state-by-state data chart showing the number of people with current confirmed cases of asthma, and the percentage of the cases by population per state as of 2020. For instance, looking at Tennessee (my home state) it shows that 552,156 people currently live with asthma, which is 10.3% of the state population. To me that was staggering looking at the numbers I had no idea that many people have asthma in my area. So, without that data it would have definitely looked less authoritative than simply saying 'half a million people in Tennessee have asthma.' Seeing all the numbers displayed that way makes it an inferential definite study: Most Recent Asthma State Data | CDCLinks to an external site.

Statistics is also very important to public policy. As I recently learned in my previous poly-sci class, a VAST number of polls are conducted in politics. Everything from age groups of voters and nonvoters, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, gender polls of the same. Not to mention the data that is used and stored for Congress, such as when the House or Senate are Dem/Rep majority or minority controlled, and what partisanship the President is during those times. Keep in mind these are just National politics, so the similar polls and data are collected in state and local levels of politics as well.

"The research question is something someone wants answered. It has two characteristics" (O'Sullivan, et al.) The research question I have thought about would be how many former soldiers developed diabetes during or after serving tours of duty. This question would meet the criteria in that it would be answered by observation and empirical data i.e., asking former soldiers who are affected. Also, it meets the criteria in that it would have more than one answer, i.e., did the diabetes onset during or after a tour of duty, was it type 1 or type 2, or even what were the soldier's eating during deployments?

Now to close with a verse. Ephesians 4:32, "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you" (Not in Notes).

Research Questions:

What is the relationship between the partisan makeup of the state legislature and cigarette

taxes?

What is the relationship between the percentage of the state that considers themselves

conservative and the percentage of the vote Obama received?

What is the relationship between the percentage of the public who consider themselves

pro-choice and the percentage who consider themselves conservative?"

Ethics significantly govern how societies and individuals view an action as bad or good. Therefore, it governs the actions of human beings towards others. Researchers are confronted with the challenge of observing ethical guidelines when treating participants in their studies. In agreement with the post, the methods used to collect data ought to be respectful towards the participants. In this regard, the researcher should not harm the participants directly or indirectly.
For a long time, the impact of data collection method has been used to determine if a researcher conformed to ethical guidelines. In other words, a researcher would be considered unethical if the methods used harmed the participants and the converse is true. However, some actions might be unethical and have no negative impact on the subjects. For instance, according to the d...
