The community cafe approach method has been critical in strengthening families. The style facilitates conversations among parents and caregivers. The cafes consist of small groups, usually five or fewer members, who engage in peer-based conversations that address particular issues. The gatherings bring together individuals for a series of structured conversations that address issues facing a community. The meetings initiate intimate environments where the participants can share and support each other to strengthen their families. This paper includes a discussion on the community café method and a reflection on the implication of a “small ripple” in making change.
The approach is needed to spark leadership among the community members. Instead of addressing broken things, the community café approach seeks to build the strength of the participants and the community as a whole. Since the community has various challenges facing families, the approach utilizes a respectful approach to the issues facing the members. Instead of fixing all the issues, the method empowers the members to be leaders. The members gain the leadership skills they need to become helpful community members. Additionally, the approach will build relationships among the participants (Kozlowski, 2018). Because of the respectful conversations, the approach will create strong relationships among families. The social capital that results from the established relationships is needed to transform the community. Lastly, the approach will strengthen families in the community.
