Anne Hutchinson was accused of sedition, when she openly criticized government and church ministers’ ideas of visible sainthood and called for the separation of the church and state. In this regard, Anne Hutchinson was against the covenant that bound the Puritan community together socially, politically, and religiously (Linder, 2021). Also, she held public meetings and taught heretical religious perspectives geared at spreading heresy by prioritizing the value of purity as opposed to flashy power and wealth gains practiced in the Puritan community churches.
Anne Hutchinson was intelligent and profoundly knowledgeable about religious scriptures. During her trial before the court, she was asked why she held a public meeting in her home and taught women and men unorthodox religious perspectives.
