Formal operational stage
Piaget’s theory of cognitive development focuses on how children acquire knowledge and intelligent by moving through four different stages. The formal operational stage begins at 12 and ends when an individual attains adulthood. Cognitive thinking in the formal operational stage is associated with the manipulation of ideas and imagination of the outcome (McLeod, 2018). For instance, in determining the speed of a swing pendulum, the formal operational stage requires children to approach the task systematically and compare the results of each variable to the others.
