Making sense of the world requires taking in energy from the environment through a process known as sensation. But, during the next stage, perception, the brain begins to interpret the sensory signals. Bottom-up processing allows the brain to feed off these two stages. Bottom-up processing refers to the perception that starts with incoming stimulus before being represented as an object in the brain. Bottom-up processing shows that human perception is based solely on sensory stimuli we gather using our senses.
