PSYC 6233 Assessment Results Template
Assessment date: 14/08/2024
Client legal name: Maha Hatem
Client preferred name: Maha
Client pronouns: She/Her
Client date of birth: 14/1/1990
Presenting Problem:
Maha is a mother of two children. She has a newborn child who needs much attention, which makes Maha feel exhausted. Moreover, Maha has another five-year-old child she must also take care of. However, the five-year-old child receives less attention than the newborn, making Maha feel guilty about the situation. This generated concerns that made Maha feel anxious and depressed. These postpartum issues need to be appropriately assessed and treated accordingly.
Test one description and rationale:
For measuring the degree of Maha's anxiety, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale, or HAM-A, was employed by the researcher. Such a test was chosen for reasons of clinical relevance because it reflects both psychological and somatic aspects of anxiety, thus embracing the whole range of Maha's complaints, including both emotional and physical aspects such as tension. The results from HAM-A assist in establishing the degree of anxiety that she has and enable the devising of the future course of action for treating her (Hamilton, 1959; Thompson, 2015).
Test one results:
Maha does get a HAM-A score of 15, which, on the scale of the severity of anxiety, places Maha as having mild anxiety. This implies that Maha presents with some features of anxiety, which are prominent but still subclinical and may, hence, lead to the impairment of the functioning of Maha (Matza et al., 2010). From a clinical perspective, this highlights the need for early structured activities as an effective method of early therapeutic intervention for anxiety disorder concerning the psychological and physiological dimension of anxiety to curtail the progression of the disorder and restore normal functioning in the client.
Test two description and rationale:
The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) is one of the most well-known scales that measure the severity of depression in adults and focuses on the symptoms within one week prior to the assessment. Specifically, the chosen 17-item version contains such domains as mood, insomnia, suicidal thinking, and physical symptoms. It is intended to be administered to a client by a clinician. Thus, the further interpretation of the results is made clinically. The rationale for utilizing this test is that it evaluates several manifestations of depression, which is essential in comprehending the client's depression and anticipating the subsequent steps (Hamilton, 1960; Sharp, 2015).
Test two results:
The HAM-D score of Maha is 13. Thus, the Maha falls under the mildly depressed illness range. As such, it shows that Maha may exhibit depressive signs; however, these are not very strong, yet they are strong enough to compromise their performance and quality of life. Based on the mentioned clinical assessment, it is possible to conclude that some forms of psychotherapy, which are supposed to help eliminate moderate or somewhat severe depressive symptoms when no aggravation of the situation at the subsequent stages is supposed to take place, should be used for this Maha du...
