A decision tree is a diagram that shows the results of a series of related choices. It allows a decision-maker or business to analyze different options based on costs, probabilities, and economic benefits (Kingsford & Salzberg, 2008). A decision tree starts with a single node and branches out to represent several outcomes. Each of these outcomes creates new nodes, which creates new possibilities. As a result, it resembles a tree.
In the example provided, when choosing clothes to wear, the day of the week and what is available significantly influences your selection, leading to two main decision nodes; day of the week and availability. The choice of clothing on the weekend is influenced by mood; if the mood is jovial, the likely choice of dress is a brightly colored, leading to an end node. On th...
