This week is focused on the concept of "right to work" and the parameters outlined in the legislation in regards to collective bargaining practices. In this discussion, we will compare and contrast between states with right-to-work laws and union shops.

Under right-to-work law (RTW), states enjoy the authority to determine whether workers are required to join a labor union to get or keep a job. The key feature of this RTW laws is that it allowed nonunion members not to oblige to pay any union fees or dues, despite them enjoying benefits like unionized members (Epstein, 2017). The issue of RTW law has been a topic of contestation in the U.S. Many have questioned its role in the society in the context of freedom of choice, association, and the desire to enhance work conditions and wages. The State of Missouri, as my state, has rejected right-to-work laws.
The right-to-work laws have a significant impact on both workers and businesses. The state of Missouri saw it necessary to reject the right-to-work laws due to various reasons. Even though the right-to-work laws are driven by choice and freedom regarding the liberty to join labor unions or not, their net impact entails the dilution of union bargaining power. The right-to-work laws make it hard for labor unions to gain financial independence and sustainability, and this may lead to their inability to agitate for better wages and working conditions for employees.
