Decision-making is a critical process in normal daily life. It is the process of making reliable choices after gathering adequate information on a specific area (Maarten et al., 2017). Attending college was a critical aspect that required effective decision-making due to many existing alternatives. With the existing opportunity in our family business, I had an option to either actively participate in the business or continue with my education. Other factors also influenced the decision, such as attending a marine army. Therefore, the Roberts' 7-step model was critical in decision making.
Step 1: Problem Identification
Problem identification is the first step of the decision-making model and acts as the foundation of the final decisions. It also involves identifying the decision to be made (Roberts, n.d.). Based on the provided decision-making content, the problem identified is attending college. Therefore, all activities align with the college requirements.
Step 2: Information Gathering
After identifying the problem, it is necessary to acquire adequate information to streamline decisions. The phase focuses on information needed for the decision and its sources (Roberts, n.d.). The sources of information for attending college were generated from the college's websites, experiences from other colleagues, and parents' opinions. Besides, I focused on other sources of information, such as online platforms.
Step 3: Identify the Alternatives
During the process of information collection, different options emerge. It is necessary to record the alternatives to use them as references for effective decisions.
